Why Do I Need Property Developers Public Liability Insurance?

Public liability insurance provides cover for your legal liability in the event of a claim being made against you by members of the public for injury, illness, death or disease caused by you whilst carrying out your work.

An example of this could be if you are building a new house and materials or tools dropped from a roof causing injury to a passer-by. Personal injury claims can run into many thousands of pounds and your public liability insurance is designed to cover property developers for such an event.

Public liability cover also provides cover for third party property damage (e.g. a ladder falling on a nearby vehicle) and also legal defence costs.

Employers' Liability for Property Developers

The policy can also provide cover for employers' liability insurance which is required by law if you employ direct employees and labour only sub-contractors. Insurers generally provide £10 million limit of indemnity as standard. It is important to note that labour only sub-contractors must be insured under your employers liability insurance.

Contract Works Cover for Property Developers

The policy can also be extended to include optional cover for contract works, own plant, hired-in plant and employees tools if required. Contract works provides cover for your new materials being used on the project.
